31 Days of Gratitude
Join me as I celebrate all I have to be thankful for during the month of October. Why October instead of November? One more day! Enjoy and be blessed.
I was grateful Puerto Rico, aka, Boricua, missed certain disaster from Hurricane Irma. But no, that wasn’t enough. Along came a hurricane named after my grandmother, Maria. Hurricane Maria had its sites set and directly hit Puerto Rico hard with Category 5 force winds and subsequent catastrophic devastation.
After Hurricane Maria swept across Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, I felt powerless. I sent money to Houston after Hurricane Harvey so of course I wanted to send money to Puerto Rico.
I found a Christian organization called Jucum YWAM Urbano PR, part of the YWAM Caribbean organization. I had friends who were involved with Youth with a Mission (YWAM) so I was relieved to find them in Puerto Rico.
I got in touch with them via Facebook and they informed me they needed equipment more than they needed cash. They needed gloves, chain saws, fuel, etc., to affect rescue and clear roads. I was incredibly frustrated I couldn’t send it myself because everything was wiped out. There was no way to deliver goods.
Since they are a Christian organization, they, at the very least, are able to provide pastoral care by praying with, over and for people, tend to spiritual and psychological needs, which is the only thing they can do until more help arrives. Now that there is a military operation underway, I am confident my money will help.
If you would like to support this Christian nongovernmental organization (NGO) in Puerto Rico that is tending to practical as well as spiritual needs, please consider JUCUM Youth with a Mission (YWAM) Urbano PR. They are located close to San Juan so they can access ports with supplies they can purchase.
