31 Days of Gratitude
Join me as I celebrate all I have to be thankful for during the month of October.
Why October instead of November? One more day!
Enjoy and be blessed.
Back in the day, i.e., the mid-80s, personal computing was just starting to take off. Fortunately, I was able to take off right alongside it. I witnessed windows growth from a monochrome DOS-based blech to the amazing graphics user interface behemoth it is today.
I also got to experience the birth and growth of the original GUI, Apple computers. I remember the Lisa, yes for a lab at De Anza College, Apple II then the Macintosh, Mac Plus and so on.
I am literate on both platforms but not simply enough to get by. I am the IT guy in my house. I have done my own memory upgrades, recovered deleted files, reformatted hard drives, backup/recover data and reinstall software from scratch. I nearly went the way of an IT career until I went to a Microsoft IT conference and discovered I didn’t care much about IP addresses and autoexec batch files.
I just wanted to create pretty stuff and write. Well, to do that today, without the added expense of Geek Squad, my computer savvy is paying off in spades.
I rid myself of all things PC in 2011 for all things Apple declaring my house “clean” as if I had a poltergeist exorcised from my home. In many ways, I did trade one set of electronics problems for another but it was the best decision I ever made.
Yes, I upgraded RAM on my Mac all by myself. Booyah!
