Day 17: Freedom of the press

Day 17: Freedom of the press

31 Days of Gratitude
Join me as I celebrate all I have to be thankful for during the month of October. Why October instead of November? One more day! Enjoy and be blessed.

Thank God I live in the greatest nation on earth, the land of the free because of the brave. Thanks to the Magna Carta, we have freedoms many second and third world nations can only dream of. However, we now have a despot for a president who is hell bent on destroying our democracy. It sounds unfathomable but it’s true and he’s only too proud to confirm that fact.

The good news is our nation’s founding fathers, in their infinite wisdom and revelation given them by Jesus Christ Himself, penned a Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights that ensured our little republic would be here to stay centuries after they died. So of course, we scored mortal enemies.

Nation states such as the former Soviet Union is doing everything in its power to destroy American or at least make it irrelevant around the world. It almost worked except for one thing: The Fourth Estate better known as the free press. It is the envy of nations around the world and these days they get to demonstrate why.

In the months since our president’s inauguration, our free press has revealed that we don’t have a legitimate president in office. Crack investigative news reporting is revealing just how much another nation state interfered in our free and fair election process. They found a new way of sowing confusion and instability so they can be seen as leaders around the world.

The most powerful reporting is coming from familiar news outlets, the same that unseated a president and uncovered the Pentagon Papers in the 70s. The Washington Post and New York Times are duking it out for their place as the number one source for news and information. Frankly, it doesn’t matter who wins the crown. America wins in the end.

The stories that have shaped our national narrative also have come from Cable News Network, MSNBC and other online news organizations such as Politifact, Politico and Buzzfeed. Our libel laws are in place and those who have tried to sue to stop what feel like personal attacks have all failed to bring down these powerhouse news organizations.

The most recent failed attempt to discredit the New York Times came from Sarah Palin who tried to sue them for false reporting. She lost. The president keeps attacking the press but guess who keeps defending it? Other politicians such as John McCain, Bob Corker and Adam Schiff.

Thanks to their reporting, they also are exposing how malevolent our president and his supporters are. Two words: Kellyanne Conway. I have never known someone to lie as much as she does. It’s disgraceful but thanks to the press and their fact-checking ways, we can hold these truths to be self evident. Our president needs to go.
