Day 28: Restoration

Day 28: Restoration

Forgiveness initiates a journey of joy-filled memories. Forgiveness is about restoration. Where there is restoration there is life and life more abundant. Forgiveness is life re-imagined.

Forgiveness is like a giant forest. At first there’s just dirt but there’s lots of activity you can’t see under the dirt: earth worms, beetles, and other natural soil enrichers that create ideal conditions for growth.

Then bursting forth are small, green buds from seedlings buried well below the surface that eventually become giant trees, large bushes and brush. As this forest grows, it attracts animals, i.e., squirrels, birds, coyotes, wolves, gophers, etc. The forest becomes self-sustaining and gives life not only to itself but creatures that make its home in it.

Then a lightening strike sparks a fire. It spreads wildfire for thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands of acres. The fire eventually is arrested either because of ample amounts of rain water or it simply ran out of fuel. The forest looks desolate, gloomy, hopeless.

Is this the end of the forest? No.

Over time, the cycle begins again and life is renewed because the forest has forgiven and forgotten the devastation brought on by mother nature.

Are there no more forests in the world? Of course not. They continue to renew and regenerate life because that’s what it’s programmed to do. It’s also what we are programmed to do.

He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to
Proclaim liberty to the captives and the
Opening of the prison to those who are bound …
To comfort all who mourn
To console those who mourn in Zion
To give them beauty for ashes
The oil of joy for mourning
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness
That they may be called oaks of righteousness …
–Isaiah 61:1-3”

Points to ponder
Where have you been burned? Can you forget about the “why” and get on with growing again? Why or why not? Need some fertilizer? Perhaps a visit to the Master Gardener is in order. Will you ask Him for help, guidance on how to rebuild, restore and renew?
